Job Title: Procurement and Inventory Control Specialist

Salary $34,000 - $58,000 Depending upon experience.

Reports To: Procurement and Logistics Manager

SUMMARY

Responsible for conducting and coordinating all procurement and inventory control functions within the Manufacturing Division to assure on time performance to production schedules and customer deliveries. This includes, purchasing, receipts, distribution and control of inventory accuracy and dollar value.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Prepares purchase orders to obtain materials, tools and equipment.

Reviews purchase orders, claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.

Manage key vendor relationships with the Procurement and Logistics Manager.

Interacts with and supports manufacturing personnel to resolve scheduling delays, errors, or other constraints that might impair service to customers, or harm quality or cost.

In the absence of Production Planner and Scheduler lead daily production meeting.

Monitors cost trends of supplied materials and services.

Negotiates with vendors of supplies, material and services to obtain favorable prices, services and terms.

Analyzes market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and prepares market analysis reports.

Works closely with Division Accountant in coding and processing invoices through to the Accounting Department.

Manages year end physical inventory counting process and procedure.

Manages inventory control, purchase orders, requisitions, invoices, allocations and receipts. Ensures raw material and finished goods inventory is accurate and are valued correctly.

Conducts regular cycle counts to insure inventory accuracy. Compare actual inventory count with office records to assure accuracy.

Reviews inventory reports for material requirements: allocation requirements to on hand quantities.

Evaluates inventory reports on a regular basis to control inventory level. Reviews "nonactive" material, overstocked material, etc. This includes material component parts and finished goods.

Evaluates and controls work in process. This is for material, labor, subcontract costs, and allocated overhead attached to jobs but has yet to ship or be received to finished goods.

Arranges for disposal of surplus materials.

Initiates or suggests plans required to meet customer requirements.

Be an integral part of driving process improvements throughout the business.

Prepares various reports for management.

Keeps unit costs and units produced up to date in the system.

Review on time delivery performance of vendors with Quality Assurance Manager.

Audits vendor performance.

Represents the company in a professional manner when dealing with customers, vendors and employees.

Follow QMS procedures and documentation as appropriate

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may direct clerical staff in daily activities.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be proficient in computer applications such as MS Word, Excel and other MRP systems.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) preferred.

Production and Inventory Control Manager

A local custom engineered manufacturing company for the truck Industry is seeking a Production and Inventory Control Manager to perform the following responsibilities: 

  • Maintain Master production schedule while working with Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing
  • Develop Work Orders and Bill of Materials while coordinating the jobs with Sales, Engineering, and manufacturing.
  • Plan all make and purchased components for each job and coordinate requirements with purchasing and manufacturing planner.
  • Review make vs. buy for fabricated or machined components and determine the most cost effective method
  •  Review inventory levels and develop purchasing requirements.
  • Create and release work orders for manufactured components and coordinate materials flow and shop documents with purchasing and manufacturing planners.
  • Must be able to work with engineering and sales departments in new product developments
  • Must be able read customer’s RFQ and bids specifications to develop preliminary budgets for sales departments.
  • Close work orders and review cost variances with managements.
  • Validate materials issued to the work orders and validate BOM for accuracy
  • Must be able to read engineering prints and create BOM structure in the system
  • Follow up on ECN to update BOMs
  • Coordinate with suppliers and purchasing on pull systems for various components
  • Will assist implementing new manufacturing software and transition the firm from manual to automated manufacturing system
  • Create inventory levels, cycle counts, and materials controls to optimize inventory turns.
  • Purchase major weldments or assembles from overseas suppliers

The candidate must have the following experience 

  • At least six years of working experience in similar responsibilities in manufacturing setting, preferred heavy industry, and or custom engineered products, with any MRP application system.
  • Must have at least three years of supervisory experience
  • Must have at least two years experience as purchasing
  • At least 4 year experience as production control and must be familiar with various materials, fabrication, machining, mechanical, and hydraulic components.  Familiar with electrical 12VDC controls is a plus
  • Must understand and have working experience in work orders, MRP, BOM, inventory, item master, routers, travelers and process plans
  • Familiar with JIT, Kanaban, and TPS is helpful

The candidate must have the following qualification 

  • Minimum of four years of college Degree in business, operations, Industrial Technology or Industrial Engineering
  • APICS certification is a plus
  • Must have excellent computer skills using various software
  • Good Command of English both written and oral

  • Capable of working with overseas suppliers on major assemblies or component
  • Validate and review Purchase price variances vs. jobs’ budgets or standard costs
  • Must be able to manage product line shortages and analyze root cause of the problem.
  • Assist  in production planning as required by creating work orders for manufactured elements and plan all materials required for a given work order

 The candidate must have the following experience 

  • At least four years of working experience in similar responsibilities in manufacturing setting, preferred heavy plate industry, with any MRP application system.
  • Must have procurements experience of various materials, fabrication, machining services, mechanical, and hydraulic system.  Familiar with electrical 12VDC controls is a plus.
  • Work experience in custom engineered manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Must understand and have working experience in work orders, MRP, BOM, inventory, item master, routers, travelers and process plans
  • Familiar with JIT, Kanaban, and TPS is helpful
  • Working experience with freight carriers ad understand freight terms

 The candidate must have the following qualification 

  • Minimum of four years of college Degree in business, operations, Industrial Technology or Industrial Engineering
  • APICS certification is a plus
  • Must have excellent computer skills using various software
  • Must have strong analytical skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Good Command of English both written and oral
